Solus Support Services provides experienced Personal Support Workers (PSWs) to residential developmental services programs across Ontario. Our PSWs are carefully selected, screened, and trained to support individuals with developmental disabilities in a safe, respectful, and person-centred manner while meeting all provincial quality assurance and duty-to-report requirements.
PSW Qualifications & Experience
- Recognized PSW credential or equivalent relevant health or social services training
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in developmental services, residential, or community-based support
- Demonstrated experience supporting:
- Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)
- Behavioural and emotional support needs
- Individualized support plans
- Strong documentation, communication, and professional boundary skills
Mandatory Screening & Clearances
- Current Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS)
- Professional reference checks
- Medical clearance confirming fitness to work in residential settings Proof of immunizations and TB testing where required
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification
- Ongoing compliance with Solus health and safety standards
Training, Orientation & Safe Practice
- Rights-based and person-centred care
- Confidentiality, privacy, and professional conduct
- Documentation standards and incident reporting
- Accessibility (AODA) and Human Rights training
- Occupational Health & Safety and Infection Prevention & Control
Crisis Prevention & Safe Management
PSWs are trained in CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) principles or Safe Management strategies, based on program requirements, including:
- Early recognition of escalation
- De-escalation techniques
- Trauma-informed, least-intrusive approaches
- Personal and workplace safety
Quality Assurance & Duty to Report
Solus PSWs are oriented to Ontario’s Quality Assurance Measures (O. Reg. 299/10) and are required to:
- Follow established policies and procedures
- Maintain accurate documentation
- Recognize and report suspected abuse or neglect
- Fulfil duty-to-report obligations, including escalation through appropriate provincial reporting channels when required.
Program-Specific Matching & Pre-Service Intake
We do not take a one-size-fits-all approach.
Before services begin, Solus completes a program intake with each partner agency to understand:
- Your residential program model
- Policies, procedures, and expectations
- Support needs, routines, and risk considerations
- Behaviour support and safety requirements
Dedicated Coordinator Support
- Coordinators maintain low caseloads, allowing them to:
- Respond quickly to scheduling and operational needs
- Actively monitor worker performance
- Provide timely feedback and follow-up
- Coordinators support communication between your team and Solus PSWs to ensure consistency, accountability, and service quality.
