LTC/Retirement Behavioural Support Worker
The LTC/Retirement Behavioural Community Support role includes the following:
Provide basic supervisory care in the community or Long Term/Residential settings
Assist with personal care, e.g. bathing, dressing/undressing, eating/drinking, transfers, hygiene, toileting, and all other aspects of daily living.
Provide homemaking services including meal prep, doing dishes, grocery shopping, laundry, bed-making, changing linens, and light housekeeping as directed
Accompany the person to appointments/community outings
Encouraging, reminding, and supporting as needed for activities of daily living
Help to ensure safety and supervision
Must complete and maintain related records and documentation such as communication books and progress notes
Continuously observe person(s) and their environments

Knowledge, Skills, Training, and Experience of Personal Support Workers/ Community Support Workers
Advanced skills and knowledge in working with seniors with psychosocial issues
Working knowledge of issues related to aging and senior care and support
A minimum of two years working in a community setting and Long-Term Care homes
College or University education or certification in a related discipline, such as, Registered PSW, BA, DSW, CYW, RPN, or equivalent regulated Health care profession,

Workers are vetted and have a clean Vulnerable Sector Police check.
Medical Clearance.
Up to date TB test (two-step)
Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
Valid Non-violent Crisis Intervention (CPI) Certificate, with annual recertification.
An understanding of the types of intervention used in community-based support services.
An understanding of the roles of other health and social care professions.
Ability to break down the activity into achievable goals.
Ability to recognize problems experienced by clients.
Experience in working with a range of age groups.
Experience of working on a team.
Ability to organize own workload and work flexibly with others.
Able to participate in supervision and make positive use of it, as well as accept direction.
Good communication skills to ensure the development of effective therapeutic relationships with clients and their carers. Ability to report informally and formally.
Organizational and time management skills
Personal skills that will assist in the building of rapport with clients, such as patience, empathy, sense of humour, and a flexible approach.
Ability to support individuals in a variety of life skills such as domestic skills, gardening, home management.
